SEO and Wordpress Themes
I’ve been doing SEO work for personal and business use for around 9 years now. I have to say that a lot of things have “seemed” to change, but when it comes down to it, ranking your site in the top of the major search engines has not.
I have successfully been able to rank multiple sites in the top of Google, using the same methods for the past 4 - 5 years. I sit back and watch all of these so called “SEO Experts” trying to sell “new” techniques for rediculous amounts of money, when most of the information is widely available on the internet for free.
I spend a lot of time researching my competitors in various search engines, and have noticed a new “craze” that is showing up quite a bit. What is this “craze” I am speaking of?
SEO and Backlinking through Wordpress Themes!
What is SEO and Backlinking?
I am not going to go into a lot of detail on seo and backlinking, but only the basics.
SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization, which is basically the steps taken to rank your site high in the search engines.
Backlinking is a very broad term, as there is many types of “backlinking”. However, we will only discuss the most powerful type of backlinking in this article, which is one-way backlinking. A one way backlink is when a site links to you, but you don’t link back to them. If you linked back to them, that would be considered a “reciprocal link”.
Now that we have went over the basics, we can get to the good stuff!
As I stated above, during my research I came across this new “craze” that a lot of SEO Experts are using, and I feel that it is worth going over.
This new craze consists of using a popular blogging software called Wordpress in conjuction with Wordpress Themes, in a way that you create free wordpress themes that will be uploaded to popular wordpress theme sites, where they can be downloaded and used by blog owners.
The way that I do it is have a blog design done by a graphical designer. I will then send that design to be coded by a professional wordpress coder.
All wordpress themes are coded standard to include a “footer” file where we can include a few links back to the websites of our choice, using the anchor text of our choice. For example, let’s say that you’re trying to rank for Free Wordpress Themes. You would include a backlink in the footer with the anchor text Free Wordpress Themes, that links back to your website or blog. What this does is gives you a one-way direct backlink to your site. Now, everytime someone downloads your wordpress theme and uses it on their website, you get a free backlink. The more downloads, the better!
Many “SEO Experts” will tell you that this method is not very effective due to the fact that your links will be on pages with content that is irrelevant to your link. Now this may be true to some extent, as having your links on web sites that contain relevant content will hold much more weight, however a one-way backlink, is a one-way backlink, regardless.
It’s funny, because if you ask the same SEO Expert if he would turn down free PR5 one-way backlinks, I can guarantee you his answer will never be no. Why is this? As I stated above, a backlink is a backlink, regardless of the content that surrounds it.
That is all for now, look forward to my next article, where I will go into step-by-step detail on promoting your own site through Wordpress Promotion.

It takes experience to see that a natural and slow (but steady) link-building campaign is best for rankings. A site that shoots up from PageRank of 0 to PageRank of 3 or 4 can just as easily slide back down to 0 again if the linking pattern was unnatural. What do you think?
